Meet Garrison

Our new intern Garrison Davis doesn’t stand still for long, as evidenced by his short film Runners, in which two parkour practitioners chase each other over the most delicious bounty of all: french fries. He somehow manages to balance at least three different burgeoning careers, and he hasn’t even got his driver’s license yet. To help welcome him to the Boiler Room, we asked him to tell us a bit about himself.

When I’m not working at Potboiler, I spend my time…

…probably training parkour or teaching parkour classes for that sweet money. Or you can find me baking or cooking, I do those a lot. If I’m not doing any of those things I’m maybe making costumes or props while listening to podcasts. If I’m not doing any of that I’m either on the bus, taking my boyfriend on a date, or up at 3 AM writing a script.

The last movie/TV show that I absolutely loved was…

Just finished watching Avatar the Last Airbender with the before mentioned boyfriend. That was pretty spectacular. My favorite show of all time is Steven Universe, very well made and fantastic underlying messages. Finally watched John Wick a few days ago, that was neat. And The Last Jedi is the best star war and I WILL FIGHT YOU.

And the last one that I totally hated was…

…Once Upon a Time in Hollywood….. I don’t have enough time to get in to it…

So far, I’ve learned the most about filmmaking through…

Gee a lot of stuff. First off BTS on DVD’s taught me a lot I think. Podcasts have been invaluable. And learning while in the process of filmmaking has done a lot as well. [Editor’s note: I’m going to assume that including the class Garrisson took from me was just so obvious an answer that he didn’t feel the need to mention it…]

The part of filmmaking that fascinates me the most is…

Storytelling as a concept just fascinates me in general. I love the process of story/media analysis. So probably writing and cinematography are my favorites.

The next movie/video that I’m going to make is…

Working on a short about Gender, hopefully that will will be done in a week or two. [Editor’s note: I’m holding you to that!]

In five years you’ll find me…

Sheesh, maybe I’ll be a part of the Portland indie filmmaking community! Hopefully I’ll have taken a few shorts to festivals around the world. And hey, I would love to eventually make a star war even better than The Last Jedi.

Keep up with Garrison’s filmmaking on Vimeo.
